• The virtual learning world is new to all of us. We understand that sometimes, occasional disruptions or technical hiccups may occur. Designate an area of the household for “school” and do your best to limit distractions, such as TV, cellphones and music.
• Remember that school is a safe space for students to demonstrate their understanding. This will help teachers identify areas of strengths and weaknesses and differentiate instruction.
• Communication: Schedule an appointment to discuss your child’s progress with his/her teacher.
• Assist your child with their work as needed, but do not finish their work or supply answers.
• Be mindful of what your child’s camera and microphone can pick up.
• Help to ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for class, and be mindful of what others in the household may be wearing.
• It is important to respect the privacy of other students and families. Recording instructional sessions without permission is prohibited, as is posting photos or videos of your child’s class to social media.
• Respect class time: regularly scheduled class time is instructional time for your students, this is not the time for parents to discuss student issues or to otherwise interrupt class.

When sending an email to teachers and school staff:

• Use a descriptive subject line.
• Be clear about the issue you'd like addressed and desired outcome.
• Include your child's full name, your name and contact information.
• Teachers are busy, allow a reasonable amount of time for a teacher to respond to parent emails.
